Safari Itinerary
Miles and miles away from the noise and dust of the city, Kidepo Valley National Park is a completely different world. Big skies, vast plains, inspiring views from every vantage point. And best African safari wildlife everywhere you look. Kidepo offers breathtaking open savannah which is surrounded by spectacular mountain landscape nowhere to be seen in Africa!
The park is home to elephant, zebra, giraffe, huge herds of buffalo, warthog, duiker, hartebeest, lion, leopard, cheetah and hundreds of bird species. A game drive around Narus valley offers visitors chance to see the highest concentration of Buffalo, and Elephants. Other animals that may be seen roaming around include: Jackal, Zebra, Roan Antelope, waterbuck, warthogs, Jackson’s Hartebeest, Eland, Oribi, Cheetah, Leopard, Klipspringer, and Lion etc. The park boosts of being the highest concentration of birds endemic to Uganda like: Ostrich, Kori bustard, vultures, pygmy falcon, hornbills, eagles etc.
One more interesting thing about Kidepo is the cultural experience that will bring into contact with Karamojong peoples at Karenga and Kapedo. Meet the local elders and have an opportunity to interact with them. They will show you the kraals, the grinding stones and many more interesting items. For adventurers, Kidepo is the point where you can visit the IK people who live on top of Mt .Morungole towards the Kenya border via Kawalakol village. A day hike to meet an interact with the IK is amazing and incredible! And this wonderful park is now home to Uganda’s newest safari lodge, Apoka.
Traditional Bandas are also available for budget travelers but they should bring in their own foods and drinks to be planned by your Tour operator during your stay at the park. The park is accessible by road or air. We know Kidepo, the language, geography and convenient time to pay a visit. To cut off costs, we prefer an organized group of between 02- 20 PAX. As a result, we have fixed our departures on Fridays and RETURN on Mondays for flying safari. Special organized groups/individuals will be given attention if they do want to visit the park any time. DAY 1 Arrival Entebbe-Kampala
On arrival at the airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your guide from Four Crane Safaris who will then transfer you to The Boma Hotel or Protea Hotel .( Meal plan D)
DAY 2:
Following breakfast, you will be driven/board your chartered plane to Kidepo National Park. Isolated from the Ugandan mainstream by the harsh plains to the north of Mount Elgon, Kidepo Valley National Park is Uganda’s second biggest National Park, and Apoka Lodge is the only lodge in the entire area. Kidepo is one of Africa’s last great wilderness areas, a tract of rugged savannah dominated by Mount Morungole and ransected by the Kidepo and Narus Rivers. Perennial running water in the Narus River makes Kidepo an oasis in the semi desert. This afternoon you can either take a game drive around the lodge area or perhaps recover from a long drive with a refreshing dip in stunning swimming pool. Carved out of a granite kopje the pool affords fantastic views down the Narus valley and over a waterhole frequented by many animals including Bullbull – our friendly elephant and unofficial head gardener! Overnight at Apoka Safari Lodge (Full Board).
DAY 3:
After an early breakfast, go for morning game drive to Kanangorok hot spring. A variety of animals can be seen roaming around including Ostrich. Return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon have a cultural experience that will bring into contact with Karamojong peoples at Karenga and Kapedo. Meet the local elders and have an opportunity to interact with them. They will show you the kraals, the grinding stones and many more interesting items. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight (Full Board).
DAY 4:
After breakfast, we will visit the abandoned Katurum Lodge. Built by Idi Amin, this impressive structure is worth a visit for the views alone.visit the bird hide and enjoy a guided nature walk, look out for Fox Kestrel, Eastern Chanting Goshawk, Grasshopper Buzzard, Montague’s Harrier, Fan Tailed Raven and the very rare Stone Partridge. Overnight at Apoka Safari Lodge (Full Board).
DAY 5:
Get up very early in the morning and return back to Kampala late in the evening.
