Catching Nile Perch, singidia Tilapia, Nile Tilapia, Catfish and more, Uganda attracts travelers for its beautiful landscapes, friendly people, the last standing endangered mountain gorillas, game life, and famous water bodies’ best for fishing safari experience. Uganda is a country, which is surrounded by several water bodies, including Lake Victoria, Lake Kyoga, Lake George, and the mighty River Nile etc.

Uganda fishing safari is an amazing adventure as you can chance to catch the heavy Nile perch that weighs up to 120 kilograms at the river Nile in Murchison Falls National Park, Lake Victoria, Lake Mburo, Sipi Falls area, Lake Albert, Lake Bunyonyi, and Lake Mutanda etc. with lake Victoria offers an opportunity to catch the Nile perch by hook, which is the world’s largest fresh water fish.

 

 

What Type of Boats are Used?

The most used boats are Speedboats, which are in size of between 18 and 30 feet and powered by twin outboard engines with large seating capacity but restricted for a maximum of 4 people on fishing trip this is to avoid line tangling. Another boat used is Fiberglass boat of about 24-feet long both canoes and engine powered, the fiberglass boat take 2 to 3 fishermen and it is good for day fishing trips not good for night fishing.

 

 

Fishing Safari Spots in Uganda includes the following;

  • Murchison Falls

Murchison falls is also largest and famous national park in Uganda, The fishing activity here takes place in Victoria Nile, which is along the River Nile at the bottom of Murchison falls and at the Nile banks. It’s advisable for all anglers to have rods which are 8 to 11 feet and 7 inch spinning rod for small fish.   The commonly caught fish are Nile perch and catfish that provides an exciting challenge to anglers using casting lures. You can also catch small fish like tiger fish when using live bait or spinning method.  You will also encounter other animals such as hippos, crocodiles, bathing elephants and birds during fishing safari in Murchison falls as you will doing fishing in game places.

 

 

  • Nile River-Jinja Fishing Safari

Located in Jinja City, spot fishing at river Nile offers memorable Uganda fishing safari experience. Sports fishing at the River Nile is for both novice and experienced travelers. Fishing at the source of River Nile mostly target Nile perch, Tilapia, Yellowish and catfish by the use of trawling, bait fishing by hooks, and spinning.

 

 

  • Fishing in Lake Victoria

This is the world’s second-largest freshwater body lake. It has over 80 islands within it. Sport fishing in Lake Victoria as a rewarding safari experience and fishing activities are available all year round; however, the best time to do fishing safari in Lake Victoria is from March to October. Anglers commonly use trolling with lures and the main target is large Nile perch that weighs 120 to 80kgs. In addition, Tilapia fish are available in abundant and is caught by Fly-fishing.
