This is one of the oldest extinct volcanoes found in Uganda it is believed this mountain first erupted in 24million years ago. This mountain, Elgon was the highest mountain in Africa and it far exceeded Kilimanjaro’s current 5,895m. What reduced its height to 4,321m is the soil Millennia of erosion, today, Elgon is the 4th highest peak in the East African region and considered the 8th on the African continent. 

This mountain Jungle is home to two indigenous communities /tribes, these are the Bagisu and the Sabiny, and the marginalized Ndorobos communities. which are forced to leave in the deep forest of Benet where the Bagisu tribe which is in other words known as the Masaba or BaMasaba claimed the Mount Elgon to be founding their father known as Masaba that’s why they refer to this mountain as their far father’s name Bamasba. The Elgon Mountain has 4,000km² and it’s the largest volcanic base in the whole world.
 
Where is Mountain Elgon Located?
Mountain Elgon is located between the border of the Republic of Uganda and the Republic of Kenya, this volcano mountain is also the aged and largest volcanic mountain in the East African region. Its large form is 80km in diameter and it rises to exceed 3,000m. The cooled heights give a short period of rest from the hotter plains which are below its high altitudes and provide safety for flora and fauna. Mount Elgon National Park is a place for over 300 bird types including endangered Lammergeyer.  A taste of climbing on top of Mt. Elgon’s deserted moorlands reveals to you the magnificent wilderness. the climbing goal of reaching the top of Mountain Elgon known as the Wagagai Peak
